A check for $3,000.00 was presented by the Red Bud Rotary Club to Kristin Heap and Larry Lovell, principal, Red Bud Elementary School, to begin a library of Leveled Reader books for students K-3. The objective of this program is to provide Red Bud Elementary School with needed materials necessary to meet the varied needs of primary students.
They will begin a leveled book closet that will house books of all genres and levels for the teachers to use to differentiate students instruction allowing the students to reach their full potential.
The materials are leveled by their readability and provide teachers with a wide variety of texts to supplement the regular curriculum. Using small groups and leveled books is thoroughly researched based and is proven to give results. All areas of literacy instruction will be covered with the use of these leveled readers.
Students will have instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension in small groups. The leveled books provided in part by this grant will engage students and hopefully get them hooked on reading for the rest of their lives.
The Red Bud Rotary proudly presented the check at their Tuesday luncheon meeting, November 10th . Through the help of Rotarians Steve Laur, Jim Walker, and his wife Cheryl Walker, a district simplified grant was obtained for $1,100.00. Red Bud Rotary added $1,900.00 from their money raising projects, reaching the goal of $3,000.00 to benefit the children of Red Bud.
