Joe Tanner Named Paul Harris Fellow

Joe Tanner (on left) was presented a Paul Harris Fellowship by the Red Bud Rotary Club in appreciation for his dedication as President in the 2009-2010 Rotary year as well as being recognized as a person whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives and mission of The Rotary Foundation to build world understanding and peace. Also pictured with Joe are fellow Rotarians and Paul Harris Fellows, Steve Laur, Pat Ramsey, Tammy Huggins and Mike Reed.

During Joe’s presidency the club purchased and distributed dictionaries to the 3rd grade students in Red Bud, Prairie and Prairie du Rocher; applied for a district simplified grant to increase awareness and provide free rides with the Monroe/Randolph Transit District for Red Bud residents; helped to provide soy milk machines and the drilling of deep water wells in Africa; attained the fundraising goals for the Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund and Polio eradication; and Joe himself designed and supplied a mobile serving facility for the club’s fundraisers. Joe led by example and worked side by side with the members to increase membership and enhance the club.

The Paul Harris Fellowship is named for Paul Harris, who founded Rotary with three business associates in Chicago in 1905. The Fellowship was established in his honor in 1957 to express appreciation for a contribution of $1000 to the humanitarian and educational programs of the Rotary Foundation. Those programs include an array of projects that save and invigorate the lives of people around the world and enhance international friendship and understanding. Foundation programs provide educational opportunities, food, potable water, health care, immunizations, and shelter for millions of persons. These activities are funded, implemented and managed by Rotarians and Rotary clubs around the globe.
